Here are some Secrets to a diabetic’s “dining out” —from Your Professional entertainers—the Sales People.
The Situation
He/she is at a Restaurant gain, it’s Thursday; and you’re in Cleveland. How do these Professional Entertainers control their diabetes when they eat out 3 or 4 nights a week? Is there a natural diabetic diet that they can find hidden in the menu?
First, the Secret—I will tell you right now.
The Waiter wants you to take over control of the evening. Till him, “Forget about it.” God knows…you know food! Manage the dining experience and have it your way. People will see you as the leader, and they will have no clue that you and they are eating a health diabetic meal.
So, Mr. Professional waiter, “Listen up.”
Talk with the Waiter. He’ll be your best friend through the evening. Let him know that you will be planning the evening. Your role is to manage the process. Don’t let him rush the ordering or the courses. This way you will:
Not order too much
Not eat too much
You will get what you want, healthy foods
Served in the portions your want
It will be prepared the way you want
“The wait staff should know how a dish is made, what the ingredients are, even how big the portion size is. So ask, already. Then have it your way”.

ONLY ORDER ONE COURSE AT A TIME. Tell ‘em what you are doing.
Don’t let them load you down with bread rolls and butter right at the start. Stop the second and third deliveries of bread. Have them bring fresh lettuce and carrots—you know the drill!
Look for ‘baked, steamed, poached, broiled and grilled. This means a lesser amount of fat is used in preparation – lower calories for you.
Ask whether the kitchen can prepare half portions. Of course they do! Many restaurants are more than willing to do so. Some even offer half portions on the menu.
Keep sauces on the side. Dip, don’t drench. Have fat and calorie-laden sauces in their place by using small amounts instead of letting restaurant servers decide your caloric intake
Salsa, not sour cream. Flavoring your food doesn’t mean you have to use butter, bacon, sour cream or other fatty seasonings. Salsa, low in calories and rich in flavor, works well at bringing the best out in food.
Don’t feel obligated to eat the whole serving. Leave as much as you can on your plate.
Split desserts. Don’t deny your sweet tooth. Just cut the dessert in half and you’ll minimize the damage.
Sit back and enjoy the evening. You need to eat only as much as you want, and no more.
